In any sport there is always a risk of getting injured, however there
are several things you can do to reduce the likelihood of an injury:
1: Always warm up properly before training any strength sport.
Dynamic stretches are a good way to warm up your muscles before lifting.
Powerlifting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0WUFHKuguY

2: Stretching and Rolling.
3: Be careful of over-training, or training too hard!
While it is tempting to lift heavy all the time, making sure our muscles are getting the recovery time they need is vital to preventing injuries. A good way to make sure you’re
not over-training is by following a program - take a look here for our recommendations.
4) Finally, sleep and nutrition are key in both improving your lifting and avoiding injuries!
As with any exercise, the more lifting you do, the more food and sleep your body needs. There is plenty of information around this online, or you can have a chat with our resident expert, Alex Jackson.

Who are we?
We are a society for those with a passion for lifting, whether you're interested in Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting or just getting stronger. It doesn't matter if you're brand new to the gym or already a champ, so long as you're here to improve. If you're looking to learn or just want some friendly faces to train with and encourage you, then this is the place for you!
What do we offer?
At Warwick Barbell, most of our members train for Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting, but we welcome anyone doing any kind of strength training, such as Body Building or CrossFit! We train together on Wednesdays 12:45-4pm and Saturdays 11:45-2pm at Warwick Sport where we have reserved racks at these times. We run coached Olympic Weightlifting sessions twice a week as well as occasional Powerlifting and Weightlifting taster sessions, including female and non-binary only sessions.
We also host internal competitions where you can get the feel for competing and offer support and guidance for those wanting to compete externally. Throughout the year we put on talks and events relating to strength training as well as having many social events for you to get to know everyone in the club! Our members will also have exclusive use of our power bars that we store in Warwick Sport.
